Option 2
Your right to a Good Faith Estimate
Under the federal No Surprises Act, you have the right to know what your care will cost before you receive it.
You have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" explaining how much your care will cost. Under the law, health care providers must give patients who don't have insurance — or who aren't using insurance — an estimate of the expected charges for non-emergency medical items and services.
- This includes related costs like exam fees, medical tests, and procedures.
- You can ask your health care provider — and any other provider you choose — for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
- A Good Faith Estimate is only an estimate; it does not account for unforeseen circumstances that may arise during your care.
- If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you may be able to dispute the bill.
Be sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or to request one, call our billing office at (269) 428-3300, Option 2.
