Cataract Surgery

The clearest choice for cataract care in Southwest Michigan.

For nearly four decades, cataract surgery has been the heart of our practice — performed by our own surgeons, in our own surgery center, for patients across the region and beyond.

Cataract surgery is not one of the things we do. It is what we do — refined over decades, trusted by the doctors who send their patients to us.

Our Own Surgery Center

Your procedure, start to finish, under one roof.

Many practices send cataract patients to a hospital. We don't. Our surgery is performed in our own dedicated eye surgery center — designed for one purpose, staffed by people who do this every day.

  • A facility built specifically for eye surgery
  • The same team from consultation through recovery
  • Outpatient care — most patients are home within hours
  • Modern technology and lens-measurement instruments

Understanding cataract surgery

A clear explanation, in plain language.

A cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens. It develops gradually — most often with age — and can leave vision blurry, dim, or washed out, with glare around lights. It is one of the most common reasons people lose clear sight, and one of the most treatable.

Cataract surgery gently removes the clouded lens and replaces it with a clear artificial lens, called an intraocular lens. It is among the most common and successful procedures in all of medicine. The surgery itself usually takes about fifteen minutes, and you are awake but comfortable the entire time.

"Our patients always come first. We take the time to listen, to explain, and to answer every question before the day of surgery."

Recovery is typically quick. Most patients notice clearer vision within days and return to their normal routine soon after. Before surgery, we measure your eye carefully and talk through your lens options — so the result fits your life, not just your prescription.

Cataract Surgery Lens Options

A lens chosen for the way you live

Not every eye — or every life — is the same. We help you choose the replacement lens that fits how you want to see.

Explore Lens Options
Standard

Monofocal Lens

Clear, reliable vision at a single distance — most often for seeing far away. A dependable choice, widely covered by insurance.

Astigmatism

Toric Lens

Corrects astigmatism along with the cataract, sharpening vision for eyes that would otherwise stay blurry with a standard lens.

Reduced Glasses

Trifocal & Extended Range

Designed to provide clear vision across near, middle, and far — helping many patients depend far less on glasses afterward.

Custom Vision

Light Adjustable Lens

The only lens adjustable after surgery — fine-tune your vision with a series of light treatments before the result is locked in.

The Cataract Surgeons

Cared for by physicians other doctors trust.

Our cataract surgeons are fellowship-trained and nationally recognized — physicians whose work has earned the confidence of colleagues across the region. The same surgeons you read about here are the ones who perform your procedure.

Trusted Across The Region

Patients come to us from near and far.

Physicians throughout Southwest Michigan and Northern Indiana refer their cataract patients to Great Lakes Eye Care. Many travel from across the state — and some return from across the country — for surgery they trust.

It is a responsibility we don't take lightly. Every referral is a patient cared for the way we'd care for our own family.
