Dr. Benjamin Nicholson is fellowship-trained in both retina and uveitis. He has a particular interest in uveitis and retinal diseases including macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and central serous chorioretinopathy, and he treats a variety of surgical conditions including macular hole, macular pucker, and retinal detachment.
He grew up in Chesterfield, Missouri, where he graduated from Parkway Central High School. He attended Dartmouth College, receiving his B.A. in biochemistry/molecular biology and Middle Eastern studies in 2000, then earned his M.D. at St. Louis University School of Medicine and completed an ophthalmology residency at the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Nicholson went on to complete two subspecialty fellowships — the first in medical retina and uveitis at the National Eye Institute and the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, and the second a surgical retina fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. He has also spent time in the Middle East and completed master’s studies at Washington University in St. Louis.
His wife, Josephine, is also a graduate of Dartmouth College and works as a software developer. They have four children — Chloe, Lucy, Silas, and Samantha — and attend the Christian Reformed Church of St. Joseph.
